Your itinerary begins in front of the Royal Palace on the Piazza Castello.
The Royal Palace reflects the taste of various architectural periods in a well-balanced way – uniting the Baroque of the famous Spanish architect Filippo Juvarra with the Neoclassicism of the court ebony cabinet maker Pelagius Pelagi and the golden and graceful Rococo of Benedetto Alfieri.
The Royal Armory, located in a wing of the building, is home to one of the largest and richest historical weapons collections in the world, dating from prehistoric times to 17th century. Created by King Carlo Alberto Savoia Carignano, it is a must for lovers of the theme, but also a great excuse for admiring the beautiful frescoed ceilings by Claudio Francesco Beaumont, depicting the stories of Aeneas.
Once out of the building, your guide will take you to the church of San Lorenzo, a masterpiece of the Baroque by the architect Guarino Guarini. Your next stop will be the Cathedral of San Giovanni (Saint John) overlooking the Roman Quarter, a district of small shops, wine bars, and workshop for artists and designers from Turin. The Cathedral holds the venerated Shroud of Turin, believed by some to be the burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth.
If you have visited Turin previously, we recommend replacing the visit to the Cathedral/Duomo and San Lorenzo with the Church of Santa Teresa, a baroque jewel near the central Piazza San Carlo.
Your visit will conclude with a stop at one of Turin's famous historical cafes, which have long been the place to meet, be seen, and re-create the world – with a cup of great coffee or hot chocolate in hand.
