Overview

Welcome to the Canavese region at the foot of the Alps of the Piedmont region, a natural gateway between the Italian peninsula and Europe. Discover the millenarian crossroads for merchants, armies, and pilgrims tracing the routes of the Via Salaria and Via Francigena through the valleys of the Mont Blanc and Graie Alps towards Turin, the capital of the Savoy Reign and the first Italian Capital.

Land of the proud and fascinating Celts, then of the Romans up to the Middle Ages, the Canavese is a land of castles, knights and ladies, heroic characters, passionate rebellions and events shrouded in legend. Land of lakes, hills, forests, and the landscape is protected by the moraine formations of the Serra Morenica, which form something of an amphitheater around the city of Ivrea. Here, the vineyards enjoy the sweetness of a microclimate, bringing forth excellent wines, such as the Carema Nebbiolo and the Caluso Erbaluce.

The cuisine of the Canavese is proud of its distinctive flavors – cured meats and Alpine pasture cheeses, Capònet (Savoy cabbage leaves stuffed with meat), onions with amaretto, Bagna Caòda (a garlicky anchovy sauce served hot as a dip), Ajucche (wild herbs soup served with bread)... and many more mouthwatering dishes await you!
